Ecole Bon Samaritain de Savanne Longue
This school’s story starts with a formidable woman by the name of Marie-Claude. Originally serving as a health agent, Marie-Claude came to Summits Education seeking our help to support a school she started to serve the children in the area who did not attend school. Many students can take up to 2 hours to walk to school coming from deep in the sugarcane fields. Savanna Longue was also the first school in the network to partner with Girls Voices, a media mentorship program that sponsored 7 girls to create their own photo and documentary projects. Competing in an international competition, seventh-grader Viergnelie won the change maker contest for her documentary on her dream of building a road for her community so that women and members have greater access to healthcare and school. She is currently spearing a women’s hygiene program in the school.
