Platanale, is partly accessible by car and was therefore instrumental in helping to transport materials to build another Summits school in Gros Moulin, located on the other side of the mountain. Dominican bachata can be heard coming from the neighbors as they are close to the Dominican Republic border. The school in Platanale was founded by the only family in the community who could read and write. They continue to manage the school which transforms to a community church on weekends.
