Meet principal wilfred philatre.
Principal Philatre was born and raised in Bernaco, a village surrounded by rolling green mountains in Haiti's Central Plateau. From an early age, Philatre excelled in school and proved to be both a dedicated and successful student. Most of his classmates did not continue with him to secondary school but Philatre continued to excel, ultimately receiving a scholarship to go college to study education. After graduation, he was offered a position to become an inspector for the state at Hinche, but turned it down, determined to return home to be "a model for the youth and for the community." Philatre returned to Bernaco as a teacher and was most recently promoted to principal.
why teachers?
Educators are the most important factor in improving student outcomes, and access to an education delivered by determined, compassionate, skillful teachers is one of the most fundamental ways to change the landscape of poverty.
Unfortunately, 85% of teachers in Haiti lack basic qualifications. In partnership with local and national organizations, we're training and supporting teachers across the Central Plateau.
